Spring

Dan loves spring; in fact, it’s probably his favourite season. It’s too early in the year for him to have completely given up on his New Year’s Resolution and too late in the year for people to still be fussing over Christmas.

Perfect.

Also, it’s the time of year when daffodils bloom. That small fact used to mean nothing to him, but now it means the world.

Why?

Because they’re Phil’s all-time favourite flower and whenever he sees them his face lights up, thus so does Dan’s heart.

So that’s why Dan loves spring so much; because he loves Phil.

I think that the beauty of this poem is that it is applicable to nearly any situation, that even if there isn't one more, you might fear or expect there to be. It should be met by a poem that talks about the horrors of not having any more.
