I am a mouse.
I am quiet, I am nothing.
I am a book that nobody has read.
I am an eclipsed sun and a cloaked moon.
I am irrelevant and unwanted, a broken toy in an attic.
I am the dust in your rear-view mirror that you leave behind.
I am the air that you breathe in and spit out as something different.
I am the palest white. I am the darkest black. I am the dullest, emptiest grey.
I am the old man with forgotten memories and the baby who has yet to make them.
I am a forgotten word, dangling on the tip of your tongue, hanging on the noose of your lips.
I am a dried up stream. I am a felled forest. I am an abandoned cornucopia of resolute nothingness.
And there is Hell burning in my eyes.
Different to what I normally write, but hey-ho. Inspired partly by my own life, partly by the character of Liesel in Markus Zusak's The Book Thief.

Please let me know what you think! :)

I truly felt inspired and empowered reading this. It has to be one of my favourite poems of all time. Bravo. :)

Woah! I just finished reading The Book Thief myself, and when reading this I thought, "This wording and atmosphere reminds me a lot of Liesel. That's kinda cool!" Then I read the description and BAM! What a pleasant surprise.

I want to see that Movie, a few fellow Da friends loved it, as I love this poem. I love the style you used, it looks good but I love your words and how you put them together to show and tell of your emotions. And it is exactly how I felt most of the time growing up.  But not now, I've done a lot of hard work.  :) on me, not to feel that way ever again.

Thank you very much!

You should definitely see the movie, but I recommend reading the book first. My friend told me we were going to see it five days in advance. It's a pretty long book, so it's a testament to how brilliant it is that I managed to finish it in four days straight. Just be warned; you will cry.

I haven't read The Book Thief yet, but it is on my To-Read-List.
I love your poem because I think almost everyone had experienced that feeling/moment. The atmosphere you create is dark and beautiful at the same time. Well done :)

I have yet to read The Book Thief, but I've been meaning too (school sucks because it doesn't let you read for leisure...hurray for graduation). This made me want to read it even more. Very cool form. I wonder if you would like language poetry? It's a pretty neat form I learned about (and did) in Creative Writing, and I really enjoyed it. :)

You need to read it; it's the best book I've ever read!

At risk of sounding stupid; what's language poetry?

Thank you very much!

I would like to see the movie, and I dislike seeing movies before reading the book (though I've done it a few times to judge the general story line), so it looks like I'll need to pick it up soon. :)

I think the easiest way to explain it is this: it allows the reader to create their own meaning from the poem. It looks like a paragraph, with different sentences. I feel I'm not explaining it properly. I have a language poem in my gallery that I wrote for my Creative Writing course last semester titled "Daddy and Me." (For credibility, my professor said it was an excellent example of language poetry.) Or, you can search for it on the web. I found it a very intriguing style of poetry and absolutely loved writing it.

You are welcome. :)

I think this poem is something that everyone can identify with at some point in their life, especially adolescence. It's dark and modest, and very beautiful; it portrays simple metaphors true to their meanings and successfully conveys feelings of insignificance. It builds up to an brief but powerful climax of wrath. I love it, and it's some of the best modern free verse that I've read in a while. Thanks! :)

(Btw I love Nirvana <3)

I find this to be ironic, because on dA, you're revered as some sort of human (as a subject) genius, and, if not that, an awesome person. You could have accompanied this with a metaphor to how every single thing in this world is dust; hydrogen that just sways. But, you didn't, and I'm glad, it seems to have depth to it, or just a simple thought, that I'm not really yet able to relate to. That is probably one of the most exciting revelations I've had in a long while. Thank you, truly.

And, son-of-a-bitch, I've managed to relate to this. As a subject that's been on my mind, it needed to come through in any way.
I've concluded that you are the alpha and omega, in a subtle way. But, the last line's made everything else fuzzy, and it's become unclear in my mind, of whether you're God, or The Devil.
You know what? I just officially decreed something: I'm a maniac, it's the only explanation!

Stop trolling people's deviations and insulting them for no reason. You clearly don't have anything better to do, so maybe you should just go play with your toys like the six-year-old you make yourself appear to be.
