For anyone who isn't familiar with the UK school system:
Year Seven - ages 11 to 12 (first year of secondary/high school)
Year Eight - ages 12 to 13
Year Nine - ages 13 to 14
Year Ten - ages 14 to 15
Year Eleven - ages 15 to 16 (last year of secondary/high school)
So the second stanza makes sense: My tutor group was pretty notorious for being a group of little shits. We were also kinda cursed from the get-go; the guy originally lined up to be our tutor got arrested for murdering his girlfriend the summer before we started. Our first tutor left mid-week, unable to cope. Then we worked through a few more. Mrs Smith stuck with us, though. And I'm really glad she did. I don't think I'd be in college if it wasn't for her.
