Pairing: Phan (AmazingPhil/danisnotonfire)
Point of View: Phil
I pause what I’m doing, which just so happens to be eating a banana, so that I’m looking up at my boyfriend mid-mouthful. He stops for a second to laugh at the sight, giving me the moment required to swallow the gooey mush. He’s still in his pyjamas despite it being almost noon and, to be honest, I’m glad; he looks so relaxed like this, half-asleep and grinning as though this is still one of his dreams.
Dan flops down next to me and helps himself to my arm, positioning it so that it’s wrapped around him. Of course I encourage this adorable behaviour, relishing the feeling of being all that someone as perfect as Dan Howell wants and desires.
“I think I might be a sloth.” He mumbles, acting like it’s the most normal thing in the world to have ever been said. “Or like, maybe part sloth or something. Y’know, the bastard child of a sloth and my mother or something.”
I look down at him as he nestles into my side, quirking an eyebrow but not feeling too alarmed by this revelation. After all, he’s said weirder before and I’m pretty sure that I have too. It’s just a part of who we are; it’s our little oddities that make us so unique and it’s that, in turn, that pushed us towards each other in the first place.
“Care to elaborate, Sloth Boy?”
“Not really.” He smirks, sticking his tongue out at me and making me chuckle just like he always does. “But for you I will, Philly.” He yawns, looking very much like one of those cute little kittens that are always popping up on Facebook and I have to resist the strong urge to pet him. He blinks tiredly, the action pushing him up to a whole new level of cute and forcing me to break my resolve as I flutter my fingers relentlessly through his silken hair. He pouts in response. “Hey! I’m a sloth, not a hand towel!”
Before he can carry on with his tirade of grumbles I swoop down and silence him with my lips. It’s adorable, the way my kisses never fail to make him blush and silence. He acts like each kiss is our first; like he never wants it to end and he’s scared of screwing it up. Of course I feel like that about it too, but he’s just so more obvious about it. Obviously cute.
I pull away, grinning smugly to myself and running my hand through his hair once more, just to prove my point.
“Yeah, but you’re my sloth. Meaning that I can do what I want with you.” His eyes widen at the devilish clip to my tone and I swear I can practically feel his heart stop from where I’ve pulled him in close. I touch my nose to his forehead and lean away from him, giving the sleepy boy a chance to process things. “Anyway. You. Sloth. Elaborate?”
He nods and shoots me a half-hearted glare; a silent promise that he will get me back later. Which, to be truthful, is something that I look forward to.
“Well, to start with, sloths rest for seventy per cent of the day.” I can’t help but smile at that, remembering all of the times that he’s fallen asleep on me, thumb in mouth and a look of bliss on his face. “They eat a lot. Did you know that the contents of a sloth’s stomach makes up two thirds of their total body weight?”
I laugh, finding the mental image of a morbidly obese sloth far funnier than I should do. But Dan doesn’t eat all that much. Sure, he has a fondness for pancakes, Malteser’s and obscene amounts of Chinese takeaway, but he’s still one of the skinniest guys I know. I silently make a note in the back of my mind to keep a track of this whole ‘I eat too much’ thing; it’s my job to look after this sort of thing as the over-protective older boyfriend after all.
“Someone’s done their homework.” He scowls playfully at me, causing a smirk to glide onto my face. “Sorry, do carry on dearest.”
“Both sloths and I make excellent rape faces.” I nod in agreement, doing my best to treat this seriously. “Sloths are famous for being like the Jedi masters of the cuddle.”
As if to demonstrate Dan tightens his arms around my waist and nuzzles his nose into my chest, the soft rub of it shocking straight through into my heart. He murmurs something about me being comfy and somehow manages to borrow in further, snuggling up close. In response I shroud him in my arms, holding him as a lowly clam cradles its precious pearl. I love feeling him so close to me, almost a part of me, because without him by my side I’m just the crappy half of one magnificent whole.
I press a kiss into his hair, inhaling his scent as though it’s some overpriced perfume. Apart from no price is too high for Dan. My Dan. Mine.
“Danny, wanna know what else you have in common with sloths?”
“Go for it.” He whispers, digging his head out of my chest and smiling sweetly at me.
“You’re both completely and utterly adorabubble.”
